Home for the Holidays
“Oh, there’s no place like home for the holidays!” And this year, for our Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) graduate Emily, this classic tune rings a little clearer.
Emily is no stranger to hard work. She tackled the remarkable feat of advancing her family out of poverty when she graduated from ES in 2019. This year, Emily set her sights on accomplishing another dream: becoming a homeowner.
Emily moved to Bucks County in 2005 from New Jersey and navigated the tricky Bucks County rental market for over 16 years. She and her family have loved exploring all that Bucks County has to offer. But with rental rates on the rise throughout the county, this determined mother of four decided it was time to find her family their forever home. The search began.
The Bucks County housing market has been incredibly competitive over the last few years. But Emily was determined. After several months, and with the support of a realtor and mortgage officer, Emily made her dream for her family a reality.
Once Emily found her home, she returned to share her accomplishments with BCOC. She emphasized the importance of the support she received throughout this process. Here at Bucks County Opportunity Council, we are proud to provide our ES graduates (who are first-time home buyers), assistance within the first five years of their graduation date.
“The homeownership award is a small way BCOC can continue to help our ES graduates achieve new levels of economic independence. Emily worked hard, saved her money, and our assistance helped her close the deal! We are #bcocproud of Emily!”
Emily and her children are settling nicely into their new home and neighborhood. The kids have a backyard with plenty of space to play. And with the holidays right around the corner, things feel even more special. The stockings are hung, the tree is trimmed, and they are ready to celebrate all they have accomplished this year.
“This home is a dream come true. It has brought so much joy to my family’s life. We feel so blessed to be in our own home for Christmas. We were even able to decorate outside this year!” said Emily.
Merry Christmas, Emily! Welcome Home!
